Rep. Ron Desantis (R-Fla.), a man who is running for governor in his state, stepped in it over the weekend with the liberal fourth estate. During a campaign rally in his home state, Desantis got on a roll about the woman the Democrats, at least the progressive socialists, think is going to save their party. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-avowed socialist and general newbie when it comes to politics, has been shooting her mouth off using Democratic talking points, and Desantis called her out:
“You look at this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is, I mean, she’s in a totally different universe,” he said to laughs. “It’s basically socialism wrapped in ignorance.”…
In a recent interview with PBS News, she referred to Israel’s “occupation” of Palestine causing a humanitarian crisis but clarified moments later that she meant that Israeli settlements are increasing in areas where Palestinians are concentrated.
“There’s never been a Palestinian state. You’re just repeating these canned, left-wing talking points, and you’re somehow the savior of the Democratic Party? Good Lord,” DeSantis said of that interview. “She has no clue what she’s talking about.”
Naturally, the Huffington Post took exception to Desantis’s approach to calling out Ocasio-Cortez and called his remarks “insulting” before going on to explain the Israeli-Palestinian occupation situation that never seems to get resolved as each side encroaches on the other’s territory. And then they sought comment from the socialist lady’s campaign for…well…
David Vasquez, a spokesman for DeSantis’ campaign, said that the congressman’s comments were “expanding on the importance of education” and that teaching students more about the Constitution might “prevent more socialists like Ocasio-Cortez calling for ‘free’ everything.” Despite being asked twice, Vasquez did not say why DeSantis called Ocasio-Cortez “this girl.”
Well, at 28, she is one. And if she actually gets to the House of Representatives, Ocasio-Cortez better be ready for more such talk. The rumor mill has it that all is not puritan on Capitol Hill.
