2 Dead In Mosque Shooting
Two men are dead after they were shot while walking home from services at a Queens, NY Mosque Saturday afternoon.
The shooting happened in the vicinity of Liberty Avenue and 79th Street in Ozone Park around 3:40 p.m..
The two men were walking home from services at Al-Furqan Jame Masjid Mosque on Glenmore Avenue.
Police say they were approached from behind by the suspect and shot.
The mosque’s imam, who ran the services, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by police as Maulama Akomjee.

The other victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.
“I’m really upset and angry,” said Millat Uddin, who knew the victims. Uddin described them as good, pious people.
Police have not yet determined a motive in the shooting.
They said there is “no indication” that the men were targeted because of their religion, but it’s still early in the investigation.
The suspect was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt and carrying a handgun, police sources say.
Police are canvassing the area looking for additional witnesses and videos.
