A new movie means that soon you will be seeing a lot more of Ashley Tisdale, and I do mean a lot more of Ashley Tisdale. In the past Ashley has been best known for her role in Disney’s “High School Musical.” But all that is about to change.
The 31-year-old actress is now taking on a much more adult role in the upcoming film “Amateur Night,” which also stars Jason Biggs and Janet Montgomery. “I really loved the script — it’s a comedy of course — and it was very different from anything I’ve ever done before so I think that’s why I liked it so much,” Tisdale said on the “Today” show.
During an interview, “Today” show correspondent Jenna Bush Hager told the actress that one of the filmmakers said Tisdale got the part because out of dozens of actresses who auditioned, she was the only one “who seemed like a stripper.” But rather than being offended by the comment, Tisdale responded that; “When I audition I’m obviously fighting for the role,” Tisdale laughed. “But I had some stripper boots in my closet and I wore them and I really dressed the part. You gotta get the role right?”
Tisdale said that in an attempt to better understand the character and prepare fo the role, she also took two weeks of intense dance training. “We had kind of a dance class choreography thing for two weeks… the dancing is a good work out for sure.”
The plot centers on an out of work architecture, Guy Carter whose beautiful wife is pregnant and ready to have the baby almost anytime. Guy has been trying to find work in his field for a year with no luck. At the end of his rope, his wife Anne finds him a job as a ‘driver’ on Craigslist. Guy shows up for the interview thinking he’ll be delivering pizzas, but quickly realizes it’s a job driving prostitutes. With money too scarce to turn it down, he he decides to go for it. That is when he meets Nikki, the tough-as-nails, unapologetic sex worker, and her two hilarious and foul-mouthed cohorts, Jaxi and Fallon. As their reluctant driver and protector Guy is thrust into a world of rockin’ women and feeble men. Over the course of one wild and sordid night, and several ‘come-to-Jesus’ moments, Guy proves to Nikki, and himself, that he does have what it takes to be the responsible father his family deserves.
The movie is due out next month, August the 8th.
