2016 DNC Has New Plans For Debbie Wasserman Schultz. This Might NOT Surprise You!
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not speak at the Democratic convention this week after leaked internal DNC emails suggested favoritism toward Hillary Clinton over Sen. Bernie Sanders during the primary.
Fearing boos from her own party, Wasserman Schultz decided not to address the convention.
Rep. Marcia Fudge of Ohio will serve as chair of the convention, a move that was ratified by the convention’s Rules Committee on Saturday night. Wasserman Schultz had been in place as temporary chair of the convention until the Rules Committee voted in Fudge as presiding chair. The party chair typically serves as temporary convention chair until the permanent chair is named.
“She was never going to be the convention chairwoman,” former Rep. Barney Frank, co-chairman of the Rules Committee, said. “It was going to be Marcia Fudge as chair and [House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi as honorary chair.”
Wasserman Schultz’s decision not to speak comes just days after WikiLeaks released a batch of national committee emails, including correspondence in which Wasserman Schultz referred to Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver as a “damn liar” and an “ASS” and said the senator has “never been a member of the Democratic Party and has no understanding of what we do.”
Sanders addressed the controversy in multiple appearances on Sunday shows and reiterated his longstanding call for Wasserman Schultz to step down. Sanders is supporting the challenger in her district’s Democratic primary, Tim Canova.
“I think she should resign, period,” Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week.” “And I think we need a new chair who is going to lead us in a very different direction.”
Sanders said he was “not shocked” by the leaked emails, however. “I’m disappointed, and that’s the way it is.”
On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sanders was asked to respond to emails from DNC officials questioning his religion and proposing using his faith against him in the primary. “It is an outrage, and it’s sad that you would have people in important positions in the DNC trying to undermine my campaign,” he said.
A top staffer at the DNC, CFO Brad Marshall, apologized Saturday for those emails. “I deeply regret that my insensitive, emotional emails would cause embarrassment to the DNC, the Chairwoman, and all of the staffers who worked hard to make the primary a fair and open process,” Marshall wrote on Facebook. “The comments expressed do not reflect my beliefs nor do they reflect the beliefs of the DNC and its employees. I apologize to those I offended.”
Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, meanwhile, suggested on Sunday that the email dump was an effort by the Russian government to help Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“What’s disturbing to us is that experts are telling us Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and other experts are now saying that the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually of helping Donald Trump,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
What is actually disturbing is there have been no apologies up until the point of getting caught! These are not apologies because they did something then regretted their choice. They did something then regardless of the who or why, the information was released. Now they must try and back peddle their way out of it. Almost half of Wasserman Shultz’s own party would have boo’d her offstage before the email leak. As for Clinton, did anyone really think she would not run a shady election? This is Hillary Clinton we are talking about. The only benefit this woman could provide anyone is when it is nearing 100 degrees outside and you can’t find anything else shady!
