Mayor Bans One Of These Bathing Suits From Public Beaches Out Of Fear
David Lisnard, The Mayor of Cannes, located in the French Rivera has banned “burkinis.“ Any full-body swimsuits with hoods – from the French riviera town’s beaches.
The ruling, signed off by the center-right mayor, states: “Access to beaches and for swimming is banned to anyone who does not have (bathing apparel) which respects good customs and secularism.
“Beachwear which ostentatiously displays religious affiliation, when France and places of worship are currently the target of terrorist attacks, is liable to create risks of disrupting public order (crowds, scuffles etc) which it is necessary to prevent.”
The head of municipal services for the city said “We are not talking about banning the wearing of religious symbols on the beach… but ostentatious clothing which refers to an allegiance to terrorist movements which are at war with us.”
The previously scheduled Burkini party at a local water park in Marseille last week was cancelled, after it sparked outrage from politicians on both sides.
There should be no outrage from the Muslim community. They more than anyone should know that safety is priority after all they left their home countries because they were unsafe. That is what everyone should be doing at this time, adding more caution where there are refugees to make sure their citizens stay safe.
