3 Terrorist Arrested In An Attempt To Do This. Thank God!
Authorities say three Florida men planned to travel to Syria and become fighters for the Islamic State.
Federal officials announced Friday Gregory Hubbard, aka Jibreel, 52, of West Palm Beach; Darren Arness Jackson, also known as Daoud, 50, also of West Palm Beach; and Dayne Atani Christian, also known as Shakur, 31, of Lake Park are under arrest.
An FBI report says the three told an informant last year about plans to go to Syria, and spoke approvingly of terror attacks in Orlando, San Bernardino, California, and elsewhere. It also says they talked about attacking the White House or Pentagon but took no specific steps.
The three are being held pending arraignment.
Federal officials said Hubbard expressed support for ISIS and told an FBI source that he wanted to travel to Syria and join ISIL for the purpose of engaging in violent jihad.
Authorities arrested Hubbard on Thursday at Miami International Airport prior to the first leg of his overseas trip. Jackson, who had driven Hubbard to the airport, was arrested after he left the airport. Christian was arrested at his job.
The complaint also alleges that Jackson and Christian also expressed a desire to join ISIS. Christian was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
If convicted, the men face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the material support charge. This penalty does not seem harsh enough to me. These men were intending to travel to and support the terror group that is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths around the world. These men made a choice to try and be a part of that, their punishment should be much more than a 20 year sentence in prison.
