Sex With Droids…You’re Kidding, Right?

One of the funniest episodes of the Big Bang Theory.  Howard and the robot arm.

Move over Ashley Madison and pull the plug on that blow up doll that’s still inflated in the closet.   Call Howard Wolowitz and tell him to reprogram that robot arm of his…if science can make it happen, a new study out of Britain says that men and women – at least a small percentage – would have sex with robots.

A recent Sky News poll of 1,800 men revealed that 15% of them would be willing to consider sex with a robot.

Top academic Dr Helen Driscoll believes humans having sex with robots could be “the norm” in 50 years.

She claims advances in technology will change the way we interact with robots in the coming decades – and that virtual reality could soon “mimic and even improve” on sex with a human.

Dr Driscoll, an expert on the psychology of sex and relationships, said: “We tend to think about issues such as virtual reality and robotic sex within the context of current norms.

“But if we think back to the social norms about sex that existed just 100 years ago, it is obvious that they have changed rapidly and radically.

“Robophilia may be alien now, but could be normal in the near future as attitudes evolve with technology.”

What kind of liberal horse hockey is that?  Social norms about sex 100 years ago?  All that Queen Victoria type repression on the outside anyway?  Is this woman claiming sex was robotic back then, because all of my great-grandmothers and great-great grandmothers had an awful lot of kids for intercourse to be prudish in anyway.  (One birthed 18.)  (Besides, the battery operated mechanical help wasn’t invented…Queen Victoria.  Right.)

So, anyway, we normal, healthy and standardly stimulated human adults are wondering a few things about sex with robots:

  • How varied is the programming?  Does the robot stick to a set of moves, or does it figure out how to be inventive?
  • Is the Kama Sutra included?
  • Can they play dominatrix, and do the men want that given the justifiable fear that robots could well take over the world with the right programming.
  • Does this mean we girls can let ourselves go?

Given that the number of robotophile pervs among the Brits is only at 15%, and reports are that among the ladies the number who would do the nasty with a droid is 2%, it sounds like this is really some science fiction author’s wet dream…I think I read that book a few years back.
