Mike Huckabee asks Retired Lt Col Bill Cowan his opinion as to why some senior members of the U.S. military, whom he often hears privately complaining over the current state of affairs within the armed forces of today, “have not publicly resigned in protest.â€
He recounts hearing grumbling from many over the lack of policy, direction and clarity. He asks “Why doesn’t someone step up and say, ‘I won’t disobey an order but I can no longer follow orders that are not in the best interest of the United States, here’s my resignation.’â€
Col Cowan doesn’t have an answer. He says, “I think you and I grew up in a time when principles and integrity were the number one thing that we tried to live by, that we led our lives by and I wish that some of our senior leaders right now would exhibit some of that. We’ve seen a real degeneration of the military under the current leadership. I’m certain that there are people in there who would like to maybe resign or who wish they could resign but at the end of the day they don’t.â€
He continues, “And I think for many of them they’re doing things, saying things and being forced to participate in things that they don’t really believe in but they do it for their own self-preservation and in the hope that they’re gonna get another star.â€
Cowan calls it a tragedy that affects every one of us, our children, our grandchildren and that we are going to pay for it for a long time.
