Maybe it’s a consequence of being sandwiched between Juan Williams and Kirsten Powers, or perhaps he has simply repressed his “enlightened liberal elitism†until now and he just snapped, but George Will has gone off the deep end.
He used to seem thoughtful, fair and well researched; that is no longer the case, at least not as it relates to the border.
He says that we should say to all of “these ‘children,’ welcome to America, you’re going to go to school and get a job (one that a citizen used to have) and become Americans. We have 3,141 counties in this country, that’d be twenty per county.†He then sarcastically takes a shot at American citizens saying, “The idea that we can’t assimilate these eight-year-old criminals with their teddy bears is preposterous.â€
His arguments have more holes in them than Candy Crowley’s fish nets, but here a couple of the bigger fallacies in his claims.
First, many are teens and many of those are criminals and members of violent gangs. That is what the border patrol reports, and they as well as ICE are the ones who are dealing with the problem firsthand, every day. They also believe many are actually older than 17, but claim to be younger because it is their ticket to America.
Oddly, no proof of identity is required by Obama’s DHS, no documentation and no background checks. Just an open door to anyone who claims to fit into the well-known demographics.
If Will doesn’t trust the seasoned and experienced eyes of front line Border Patrol and ICE Agents’ and prefers to take the word of an Obama regime that is infamous for being pathological liars and anti-American, it’s his prerogative.
Secondly, he makes an assumption that the twenty per county number would be the end of it. The flow is ongoing. It will soon be forty per county and then 200, even higher when the criminal White House gets their “alien airlift†going from satellite importation offices inside the offending countries. How about 5,000 per county, is that when we decide enough is enough?
At some point you have to turn off the flow, don’t you George? Is that point when America looks exactly like Honduras and our fundamental transformation into a socialist Hellhole is complete?
Will has always liked to portray himself as being in favor of fundamental fairness. He should consider the masses of people who have applied and are attempting to follow our immigration laws and legally become residents of the United States. This is a slap in the face to them and blatantly unfair. If we have room for twenty per county, it should go to those who have respected the rule of law of the nation they hope to become a part of, not to the unknown rabble who forces their way in.
Maybe putting the argument into elitist terms will help poor misguided George understand. Suppose, George, you had made reservations at one of the fine Washington DC restaurants that you are surely a fixture at for a special occasion, months ahead of time. When you show up at the entrance at the reserved time, rather than being seated, you are told to wait outside. You witness others who were just passing by crowd through the door and enjoy a delicious meal as you and your party are relegated to watching from outside. You had reservations, but they were more deserving because they were “really hungry.”
Then again, the restaurant has plenty of tables. Maybe you could suggest that they simply seat one of the crowd at each table, and the customers could each just pick up the tab for their allocated squatter. You could call it assimilation and could also label any idea that those customers shouldn’t be forced to accept their new dinner guest and pay their tab as being preposterous as well.
George Will lost a large segment of his audience with these leftist comments and has shown his true nature. The news isn’t all bad though, he can expect a call from MSNBC; he’d be perfect over there.
