We are not defined by our race, color, or religion. We are all judged in the way we treat others. This world is full of good people while the media chooses to show the bad. Everywhere you go in this country people are respectful, courteous, and just trying to get by. The media would have you believe all black people are out robbing each other and wearing their pants to the floor. If you decide to watch the movie “Selma” you might think my family was a bunch of racist.
I was raised in Selma Alabama until the age of twelve. My grandmother raised nine kids and lived there for the 89 years. She loved people because of their character not their color. She had friends of every color that respected her as she did them. The people of Selma both black and white are wonderful people. Just like every town in America they have their share of crime and trouble. The few out causing trouble do not represent the majority. They have white trouble makers just like they have black trouble makers. If you have a run in with someone being rude it doesn’t mean the whole town is rude. Visit Selma today and there is a good chance you will meet some really good people. That doesn’t guarantee that you won’t run across someone who thinks white people are “crackers.”
Al Sharpton is a preacher of hate but it doesn’t mean all black people feel the same way. I truly believe they are sick of this man destroying black communities like the whites are sick of the Westboro Baptist. Most people are out doing the right thing while trouble makers hide behind the color of another man’s skin. We are all responsible for our actions and skin color is no excuse. They say Kennedy was shot by a white man. You can’t blame every white man for what took place on the grassy knoll. You can’t blame all black people because of the ignorance of Al Sharpton. Oprah has never met my family and its ignorant to say white people of Selma didn’t like blacks. My family is white and they all like black people just fine. I only wish the media would start showing the good side of Americans. The most beautiful colors are found in America and those colors are Red, White, and Blue… God bless you America… Semper Fi, Shep
