Army captains Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. had had their Hawaii wedding planned for months and even sent an invitation to the President, assuming he would likely be in Hawaii for Christmas as he usually is.
Though the couple received an RSVP declining, at their wedding rehearsal the day before the ceremony they were approached by presidential staff, informing them they would need to move the ceremony because, well, Obama was playing a round of golf there the next day.
Sister of the bride Jamie McCarthy told Bloomberg,
“it was emotional, especially for her – she’s the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned.”
The ceremony had been set to take place at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on the Marine Corps Base.
However, the King did call his subjects to congratulate them on their union…after finishing his round of golf.
The White House declined to comment.
