The United States has reluctantly provided information to the American people, through the efforts of Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), of their deplorable release of 169 violent illegal alien criminals onto the streets of America. These are all individuals who have been not only charged, but convicted of “homicide-related†offenses who were awaiting their deportation proceedings.
For some bizarre, un-American reason, the DHS leadership decided to save these criminals all of the trouble of being deported and having to re-enter illegally to prey on the American public. They told ICE to just let them go.
Grassley has been trying since June to get details on over 36,000 criminals DHS chose to mix into the American population.
Thomas Winkowski, ICE’s principal deputy assistant secretary wrote in a letter to Grassley:
“Of the 169 detainees with a homicide-related conviction who were released from ICE custody in FY 2013, 131 have been issued final order of removal. Of the remaining 38 aliens who have not been issued a final order of removal, one was granted voluntary departure by an immigration judge and subsequently departed within the permitted time frame. Further, 154 of the 169 were released pursuant to court order due to Zadvydas.â€
He then provided the 130 zip codes “associated with the detainees.â€
As if admitting the release was an inexcusably stupid and unnecessary risk to the American public, Winkowski wrote, “Ensuring that our enforcement policies and procedures are best suited to protect national security, and public safety is paramount. To make certain we are doing everything we can in this regard, I am instituting new procedures requiring that an appropriate senior-level supervisor must approve before ICE releases potentially dangerous individuals.â€
Grassley commented in a statement, “The public needs to know when a person is in the country illegally, and who has been convicted of a homicide, is released into their communities. We’ve introduced legislation that would reverse the court case that the Obama administration is relying on to excuse its irresponsible release of thousands of criminally convicted aliens.â€
Grassley’s office noted that he has introduced legislation that would “close the legal loophole created by†the 2001 Supreme Court Case Zadvydas v. Davis, which requires the government to release aliens if they are not accepted for deportation by their home countries within six months.
This is a nation run by idiots or very able criminal opportunists, possibly both. The Supreme Court ruling that a foreign government can dictate that we release their criminals onto our streets solely by virtue of refusing or ignoring our requests for deportation is insanity.
The Obama regime excels at blaming legislation for requiring them to act against the best interests of the American people. For some odd reason, the people’s interest and the Obama interest or socialist Democrats interests are at odds quite often. Their hands are tied only because they want them to be tied, just as they are with the fabricated requirement through misinterpretation of a law to induct illegal alien children from Central America. Inexplicably, a policy for the importation and release of violent criminals onto American streets has become a priority for Homeland “Security†under Jeh Johnson and Obama.
We have diplomatic missions in most of these countries and we have a State Department. Rather than sending the Secretary of State around the globe to drone on about the fabricated hazards of climate change and representing other special interests, he could spend that time working on issues such as this and freeing our Marine from a Mexican prison. That’s his job; he needs to do it.
