President Obama, A.K.A. Communism’s Cheerleader, Makes Disastrous Deal With Cuba.

Obama acted as king once again today by lifting the embargo on Cuba and releasing three Cuban spies. Cuba in return, released American hostage Alan Gross and an unidentified American spy. The White House will have you believe that this was not a prisoner exchange, but I think we all know better than that. According to Senator Ted Cruz, Obama actions with Cuban relations has just “made matters worse.” Cruz, who is Cuban-American, said, “make no mistake, although we are glad (former prisoner Alan Gross) is now free, the agreement the Obama Administration has entered into with the Castro regime has done nothing to resolve the underlying problem,”
As usual Cruz is correct. He went on to say, “Fidel and Raul Castro have just received both international legitimacy and a badly needed economic lifeline from President Obama. But they remain in control of a totalitarian police state modeled on their old state sponsor, the Soviet Union.”
So what did the United States get in return for opening diplomatic relations with Communist Cuba? In a word, nothing. Extending recognition to Cuba’s dictatorial regime does nothing but harm the U.S. national interests, and it fails to advance freedom in Cuba.
“If history be our guide, the Castros will exploit that power to undermine America and oppress the Cuban people,” Cruz said. “First Russia, then Iran, now Cuba – this is one more very, very bad deal brokered by the Obama Administration.”
Cruz isn’t the only one who opposes helping a communist regime. Marco Rubio slammed the deal saying, “At a minimum, I would say this. Barack Obama is the worst negotiator that we’ve had as President since at least Jimmy Carter, and maybe in the history of this country,” He too knows that we are setting a very dangerous precedent. “It puts a price on every American abroad,” he said. “Governments now know that if they take an American hostage, they can get very significant concessions from the U.S.”
Obama seems hell-bent on helping our enemies and hurting our allies. The Castro brothers are allies of North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela. Did Obama just forget that Cuba is a leading state sponsor of terrorism?
Even Democrats are speaking out against the unilateral move. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey said, “It invites dictatorial and rogue regimes to use Americans serving overseas as bargaining chips. I fear that today’s actions will put at risk the thousands of Americans that work overseas to support civil society, advocate for access to information, provide humanitarian services, and promote democratic reforms.”
Congress still may be able to use the power of the purse to block President Obama’s efforts. Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted Wednesday he would “do all in my power to block the use of funds to open an embassy in Cuba. Normalizing relations with Cuba is a bad idea at a bad time.”
I have to be honest though, after watching Congress give little opposition when Obama overreached his authority by giving amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants; I don’t have very much faith in this fight.
