New Protests Form After Another Black Teen Is Shot By Police Near Ferguson

The anti-police crowd are doing their best to turn another police shooting into a reason to protest. Tuesday night, A suburban St. Louis police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old black man. The shooting occurred at a gas station in the town of Berkely, just a few miles from Ferguson. According to St. Louis County police spokesman Sgt. Brian Schellman, the officers were conducting a routine business check at a gas station around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when two men approached them. Police say that one of the men pulled out a handgun and pointed it directly at the officers. The officers then fired several shots, fatally wounding the man. The second man fled the scene. The identity of the man was not immediately confirmed. St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that a woman came to the scene, Toni Martin, claiming to be the mother of the deceased. She identified him as her son, 18-year-old Antonio Martin. Toni Martin told the newspaper that her son was with his girlfriend at the time of the shooting.
“He only just left the house to go see his girlfriend. Maybe he started to run and they got shooting,” she said, adding that she did not think her son was carrying a gun.
St. Louis County Police said the cop was “fearing for his life” after Martin allegedly pulled out the handgun and pointed it at him. A handgun was recovered at the scene, police added.
Protests have already started as a crowd of over 200 people gathered around the site of the shooting. The protesters began to clash with the police. A photographer Bradley Rayford, who is at the site reported, “I can see about 50 cop cars, they’re fighting and scuffling, the highway is blocked with cars, people are being arrested,”
John Henry, from KDSK tweeted, ” Crowd is gathering, smashing Hazelwood PD car.”
Let’s just pray that this does not escalate into another Ferguson disaster. Our country has had enough of this.
