The latest battle in Trump vs. the American mainstream media featured an obviously irritated and aggitated Donald Trump holding a press conference for the purpose of clearing his name in the “Veterans Money” affair. The reality is that Mr. Trump was kind enough to offer to raise some funds for veterans groups around the nation, rather than attending a “debate” when the format had run its course. Mr. Trump then had the people at his foundation research what amounts to grant proposals from various organizations once the pledges from him and some of his friends came through in order to be sure the funds were going to worthy groups. Mr. Trump calls it vetting. (Even the media knows what vetting is, right?)
That is known in business as due dilligence, and not only should EVERYONE donating to charity do it, but in turning around those grant requests in less than six months, the money didn’t just sit, and yes, even the Washington Post said half the cash had been distributed before the calls from the media on what happened to it all started.
Mr. Trump then proceeded to read aloud the veterans groups – many of which are known in the non-profit world as being first class organizations – and the amounts of money that went to each group. Mr. Trump’s million donated to the cause actually went to a single organization, the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, mainly because Mr. Trump had donated to them previously and the vetting had already been done. Trump then had all the paperwork available to prove to the world that there was no subtrefuge from his quarter on the matter, and that the narrative was plain and simply wrong.
One would think that this confirmation would be the news of the press conference. After all, 22 veterans groups were named (this is called free publicity, and some of these groups very much deserve it), and that list alone is news worthy. (This writer thought so, which is why she wrote about it yesterday.) According to the editorial judgement of the American media, lamestream and otherwise, what was news worthy was Trump calling ABC’s pretty boy anchor, Tom Llamas, a sleaze, and the rest of the fourth estate/fifth column dishonest.
This would be a problem for Trump if most of America didn’t agree with him regarding the media, since we all know they push narratives and viewpoints all the time that aren’t true.
It doesn’t particularly matter who it was that Trump called out, and it doesn’t really matter that the man was trying to clear his name and managed to make the acrimony worse (which makes things far more entertaining for the rest of us), what does matter is the substance of his assertions – that the media lies, and takes his sarcasm completely out of context to attempt to damage him – was summarily ignored in an attempt to damage the teflon billionaire using the latter option only this time with a statement that happens to be true, even if it can be hurtful to someone with a thin skin.
Seriously, have these people learned NOTHING from watching Simon Cowell and Sheldon Cooper over the years? Not everyone has a rosey opinion of you, whoever you are, performance is fair game for personal criticism, AND sarcasm is an art best appreciated in context of a complete conversation.
It’s like the media has no integrity or sense of humor, and an inflated sense of importance.
Oops. Did I say that?
With the coverage of the May 31 press conference, the mainstream media proved Donald Trump’s point for him, and any number of normally rational Americans have fallen for their line and narrative simply because they are the mainstream media, and they are conditioned to take the word of “experts” over using their own heads and judgement.
The people populating the airwaves do realize that the rest of us know that half the outlets are owned by just six conglomerates, and that incest is a modus operandi of the entertainment industry, which the alphabet soup networks are part of. We’re all supposed to be outraged because Donald Trump called a talking head a sleaze? Did it ever occur to them that he’s right and the American people know it?
It’s like the bottom feeders are blindly tossing mud at the man to see what sticks.
