Reports all over the news organizations, conservative and not, are all saying the same thing: Hillary Clinton supporters, even down to the grass roots, are getting nervous. Â Every time they turn around, there’s a new scandal, or new details to an old scandal that really just does not make her look good. Â Last week it was the disastrous press conference on the private email server, and this week…well, it seems that Hillary Clinton said she would keep the Obama Administration informed on who the donors to the Clinton Foundation were, and as it turns out they stopped doing that in 2010.
In 2008, Hillary Clinton promised Barack Obama… to publish all the donors on an annual basis to ease concerns that as secretary of state she could be vulnerable to accusations of foreign influence.
At the outset, the Clinton Foundation did indeed publish what they said was a complete list of the names of more than 200,000 donors and has continued to update it. But in a breach of the pledge, the charity’s flagship health program, which spends more than all of the other foundation initiatives put together, stopped making the annual disclosure in 2010, Reuters has found.
In response to questions from Reuters, officials at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and the foundation confirmed no complete list of donors to the Clintons’ charities has been published since 2010. CHAI was spun off as a separate legal entity that year, but the officials acknowledged it still remains subject to the same disclosure agreement as the foundation. …
CHAI should have published the names during 2010-2013, when Clinton was in office, CHAI spokeswoman Maura Daley acknowledged this week. “Not doing so was an oversight which we made up for this year,” she told Reuters in an email when asked why it had not published any donor lists until a few weeks ago.
Neither of the Clintons could be reached for comment while they are attending to their very busy travel schedules.
Given that there was no Inspector General at the State Department during Mrs. Clinton’s tenure as Secretary, and that there are multiple instances outlined in the Reuters piece of foreign governments donating to the Clinton Foundation or CHAI during the 2010-2013 time frame when there was no disclosure of donors, operations might well have been innocent and truly meant for the betterment of circumstances around the world, but the optics are very bad for Hillary. Â This is just one more not so small scandal that would be magnified to the nth degree if the person causing it – real or imagined – was a Republican.
The one comfort everyone should take from these scandals, is that at long last, the Clinton grass roots are rethinking the wisdom of backing Hillary for president. Â If she tries to gloss over these scandals, what else is she going to try to do that just doesn’t pass any sort of smell test?
