A famed Texas theater, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, planned to thumb their noses at North Korea this week by replacing the cancelled movie “The Interview” with “Team America: World Police”. ” Team America” is a 2004 satire movie that features Kim Jong-il, the late father of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, as the villain.  Unfortunately, the nose thumbing will have to wait because the Alamo Drafthouse released a statement saying,

“We can confirm that the screening of TEAM AMERICA was cancelled as the film was pulled from release. We are issuing refunds to those that purchased tickets.”
Cleveland’s Capitol Theater planned to show the film as well, but they too were forced to cancel. The theater booked “Team America: World Police” back in October for a late-night cult screening.
Cleveland’s Capitol Theater posted the news to Twitter saying,

“Please note: Our Late Shift screening of Team America: World Police has been canceled by Paramount Pictures.”
A spokesman for the Capitol Theater in Cleveland told media outlets that the studio did not give any specific reason for removing the film. The Plaza cinema in Atlanta also tweeted it had pulled a screening of Team America.  A spokeswoman for Paramount Pictures declined to comment on the pulled screenings.
